How does plastic vacuum forming work?
Material preparation
- A suitable plastic sheet is selected (such as ABS, PET, PMMA, PC, or PVC) with the required thickness and properties.
- The plastic sheet is secured to a frame that holds it in place throughout the entire process.
Mold placement and vacuum forming
- The softened plastic sheet is lowered onto the mold (typically a bottom negative mold).
- Vacuum is immediately applied: air is sucked out from between the mold and plastic, which presses the plastic precisely to the mold’s shape.
- If necessary, pressure (pressure vacuum forming) or mold cooling can be used as assistance.
Advantages
- Fast production and lower material consumption
- Suitable for different industries
- Wide material selection and flexible solutions
